Bulk materials handling is the engineering field centered around the design of equipment used to transport materials such as ores and cereals in loose bulk form. This also may be associated with the handling of mixed waste.

Bulk material handling systems typically consist of items such as reclaimers, machinery moving conveyor belts, stackers, shiploaders, bucket elevators, unloaders and various freight, hopper and diverters combined with storage facilities such as stockyards, silos storage or landfill.

The purpose of the bulk material handling facilities in general for transporting materials from one of several locations (sources) to the final destination. Providing storage and inventory control and materials may be mixed usually part of bulk materials handling systems.
